Public Notice
Our warm greetings to all of you and congratulations on the historic contributions you have been tirelessly making since the founding conference of the TISJD in August 2001.
TISJD is just a year old. Yet, the tasks it has been able to accomplish have made it one of the civic organizations that have meaningfully contributed to the protection and promotion of human rights in Ethiopia.
In a span of a year TISJD has successfully discharged the responsibilities it has been entrusted with by its members and supporters in August 2001. TISJD has been particularly active in conducting meetings, public gatherings and conferences that have been attended by all Ethiopians in the Diaspora. TISJD has accomplished the difficult task of pulling down the ethnic fence that has been erected by the repressive TPLF leadership and has, as a result, brought Ethiopians closer together in the struggle for justice and democracy in Ethiopia.
TISJD was the first civic organization to craft petition, dispatch it to its fellow countrymen, develop it and make it accessible to the public for signature. And we all know that the petition drive later became an immeasurably effective tool in the struggle against traitors who have been working hard to compromise the national interest of our country.
TISJD has also worked with individuals, groups, associations and organizations to defend the rights of Ethiopians and, once again, preserve the unity of our people as has been clearly demonstrated by the numerous national and international demonstrations that have been staged worldwide. TISJD has been particularly instrumental in the extraordinary display of solidarity among Ethiopians in the historic rally staged before the UN headquarters in New York city. NY has really been mesmerized by the gallant Ethiopians who had traveled long distances to make their voices heard in the international arena. NY has indeed witnessed a show of true Ethiopian solidarity, amazing discharge of civic responsibility and love for one's country.
Congratulations to all of you, ladies and gentleman!
Members and supporters of TISJD did what they did in the past year to, in one word, contribute in the peaceful struggle to protect human rights of our people and preserve the integrity of our country. The traitorous government of Prime Minster Zenawi, however, has been not only consistently disregarding the demands of the people but has also been busy eroding the very fabric of our unity and threatening the very survival of our nation.
In spite of the cruel repression of Mr. Zenawi and in spite of his callous betrayal of our national interest, the struggle for justice and democracy has blossomed. And Mr. Zenawi is trembling under the pressure the solidarity of Ethiopians is relentlessly exerting on him.
Still, Mr. Zenawi is causing damage that could be irreparable unless we further strengthen our solidarity and check the tyrant. This is why we still insist that the struggle needs to continue.
Today, like last year, we commend you for the support you accorded the Tigrean International Solidarity for Justice and Democracy and for your commitment to continue the exertion of the concerted effort to its logical conclusion: the erection of a democratic order where justice will reign supreme.
To this end, we have planned our second international conference of representatives of all concerned Tigreans all over the world to be held in Washington DC on August 23 and 24, 2002.
The issues the conference will consider will include:
The above agenda items are related just to provoke thought and are never complete. We, therefore, encourage you all interested participants to come up with ideas, concerns and agendas of your own that you think need to be addressed at the conference.
