Sudan protests hot pursuit operation by Ethiopian military

KHARTOUM (AFP) - Sudan has protested to neighbouring Ethiopia over a hot pursuit operation undertaken by its military against suspected rebels in which several Sudanese villages were forcibly cleared, reports said Monday.

The Sudanese Media Centre said the Ethiopian unit entered Fashaga district of Gedaref State in pursuit of suspected fugitive members of an opposition faction.

It quoted "informed" sources as saying the soldiers cleared several Sudanese villages on the border, threatening residents with destruction of their homes if they did not leave.
