Reflections on Yesterday and Tomorrow
By Shimeles Fetene
Jan 8, 2004

1.1. Xmas and the YEAR ended and begun -
with candles and cheers...and floods...and EARTHQUAKES,
1.2. As if to get rid of all -
the "arrears" and the "burdens" of light-years.

2.1. The WORLD seems to be a big lab of chaos,
2.2. Whose HEAD has either lost -
     the control over his experiments,
2.3. Or there are too many, working as cooks,
2.4. Thereby spoiling the broth.

3.1. If it was GOD that did/does it,
3.2. It remains for ever my Gordian Knot.
3.3. If it was/is just NATURE that went/goes mad,
3.4. A PANACEA to cure, SHOULD HE-and-we-together finde!!!

4.1. If [from the foregoing] you ask me whether to be
optimist or
pessimist,
4.2. I tend to be the latter at worst,
4.3. Though it was/is never my nature to be that.

4.4. CHRISTMASES come and go,
4.5. The NEW YEAR will be old too.
4.6. NEW-FOR-EVER! is the perennial misery,
4.7. That mankind encounters daily.

4.8. I HOPE, however, this [suffering] to be managed
     and never come again,
4.9. Like the old year, just gone.
