Ignore Eritrea!

I read Micheal Berhe's "Eritrea is Ethiopia: yesterday, today, forever" November 16 article with interest.

I have a radical proposal regarding Ertirea: IGNORE IT. Eritrea has taken center stage in every discussion of Ethiopia for the last 30 years. This has not served us well. It has sapped Ethiopia's energy, reducing Ethiopia into one of the poorest countries in the world.

Eritrea got its independence with the acttive support and blessing of the Woyane group currently ruling Ethiopia. Thanks largely to the war waged by the EPLF and the TPLF Ethiopia has been reduced to a weak, land-locked, beggar nation. It is not now in a position to reclaim her lost territory.

Idle, emotional chatter about reclaiming lost territories at this point would only divert attention. The focus now has to be on getting rid of the Woyane, on cleaning house. To regain its dignity, Ethiopia must first feed its own people and tackle the scourge of AIDS.

There is a time for everything. Once our house is in order, there will come a time when we can talk about reclaiming lost territories.

Eritrea is like a self-centered ex-girfriend, who refuses to go away. So let us for once focus on what needs to be done to heal Ethiopia. Let's igonore Eritrea for now.

This is my modest proposal.
