Back to square one folks; Meles is in business all over again

No one was naïve enough to believe that Meles would stand up to defend the national security and socio-economic wellbeing of Ethiopia. It was a matter of time, a matter of when he would revive his ever-potent agenda, the destruction of Ethiopia, step-by-step, in a systematic fashion, thanks to the support he is receiving from various sources.

It is only surprising that he came back on track to implement his agenda of destroying Ethiopia, on behalf of Eritrea, before the May 2005 elections. He apparently has used the lull-period to regroup his power system across the country, to strengthen his network of controlling the population, crippling and crashing anyone that does not agree with him.

This new move to revive the so called "Algiers Agreement" should be testimony that he has laid down strongly entrenched power machinery across the country to the extent that he does not even fear to revive his Eritrean agenda at this point in time, just before the elections. This demonstrates his absolute confidence in the outcome of the upcoming election, in spite of reviving and pursuing his agenda, which is designed, to lockup Ethiopia in a permanent jail, without possibility for parole.

It is to be remembered that at the turn of this century, Ethiopians at home and Ethiopians around the world shook the earth through a variety of venues in protest to Meles' agenda of destroying Ethiopia on behalf of Eritrea. No one can forget the countless demonstrations Ethiopians carried out globally during the period of 2000-2002, vehemently protesting the ruling of the so-called "Border Commission". No one can forget the countless articles that were posted on the web and in various media outlets, at home and abroad, authored by nationalist Ethiopians motivated not by self-interest, but simply by the evident need for the protection of the vital interest of their country. No one can forget the inherent resistance of the people of Ethiopia against Meles' mission of systematic draining of the country's potential in every viable way.

Thorough out the lull-period, Ethiopians must have been wondering as to when Meles will revive his sworn position of de-capacitating Ethiopia for the benefit of his own vision for Eritrea's advantage at the expense of Ethiopia. As was already articulated by many nationalist Ethiopians, Meles is a proxy-ruler representing Eritrea at the helm of power in Ethiopia. Since he came to power some fourteen years ago, he has made it clear by action that he has nothing to do with Ethiopia or anything Ethiopian, except to use Ethiopia for the promotion of Eritrean interest by holding on to power in the heart of Ethiopia. It does not take hard thinking to figure out the crimes he has committed against Ethiopia, some of which are as follows.

  • Arranging, pushing, facilitating and implementing the secession of Eritrea by conspiring with Ethiopia's archenemies including Boutros Boutros Ghali of Egypt.
  • Declaring Asseb (Ethiopia's natural access to the sea) as Eritrean, in an attempt to permanently deny Ethiopia any outlet to the sea, ensuring that Ethiopia's development potential is permanently dwarfed. The impact of this is already severely crippling the Ethiopian economy, aggravating the already grave situation to the level of desperation.
  • Fostering ethnic hatred and promoting divisiveness across the country to ensure that the country remains divided, weak, and incoherent, focusing on useless bickering and small talk, thereby giving him (Meles) all the latitude, (freedom) to take care of his grand schemes of dismantling Ethiopia, while everyone else is bogged down in pettiness that he carefully masterminded.
  • Cultivating dangerous fields for confrontation on religious grounds.
  • Neglecting the education system thereby denying Ethiopia generations of skilled, productive manpower in every conceivable field.
  • Neglecting the country's infrastructure to perish beyond use. The most striking of them all is the destruction of the country's healthcare system. Hospitals, clinics, and healthcare centers are themselves threat to health and far, far, way far, from being capable of giving basic healthcare services to the sick.
  • Institutionalizing a culture of beggary and handout mentality in place of the traditionally hardworking, toiling, and self-reliant culture that was in place throughout history. Using draught as an excuse, Meles has found it easy and convenient to repeatedly knock at doorsteps of foreign capitals again and again begging for food for the have-nots. His top priority is to distribute handout from begged food in the name of Ethiopia, to the draught affected areas rather than concentrating on finding lasting solutions to the vulnerability of the country to the recurring draught and chronic food shortage. As a result, the traditionally toiling and hardworking peasants in affected regions have permanently abdicated their trade of diligently working the land, day and night, without fail, to produce whatever the land can, under existing conditions. That is (i.e. subsistence farming) how Ethiopia fed its population throughout its history, long before begging for food around the world came to be the norm. Now, with the food that Meles throws at them which he gathers through shameless begging and willing and dealing, the renowned hardworking peasants have turned into unoccupied, unengaged, uninterested, unproductive, permanently dependent, hopeless, desperate majority. Mind you, that is a huge portion of the population. Don't forget, subsistence (peasantry) farming is the largest sector in the Ethiopian economy.
  • Immersing the country into a war of aggression with Eritrea (1998-2000) at the heaviest cost ever, not for the defense of Ethiopia's interest, but to show as to whether Meles or Isaias was more powerful. It was a gang-fight that went out of control, which resulted in meaningless loss of tens of thousands of lives and destruction of so many communities across the northern border of the country. To make things much worse, he reversed the country's victory into a shameless defensiveness subjecting Ethiopia into outside pressure in favor of the aggressor.
  • Signing the "Algiers Agreement" at his own will, with no mandate from any segment of the Ethiopian people, rushing to take action, to ensure that Ethiopia is handicapped for ever in so many ways, and last but not least,
  • Undermining the people's quest for free and fair elections using force as he pleases, in order to remain in power until he is sure of the country's disintegration and complete destruction beyond repair, following which he will escape to any of the many convenient hideaways he has arranged for him and his family, bagging Ethiopia's badly needed hard currency for his own luxury and comfort in foreign lands.

That is why it is again time for all Ethiopians to lineup united, as always, because, apparently the threat to Ethiopia's national security and territorial integrity, including its natural right to access to the sea is under fire, a very hot fire, which only Ethiopians can put out. It is time for all Ethiopians to voice opposition to Meles' renewed aggression against Ethiopia's territorial integrity and national security. It is important to act now, because it is the only force that can make all the difference to the very existence of Ethiopia.
