Alumni re-union weekend in Seattle
June 18, 2003
SEATTLE, Washington (Ethiomedia) - Over 70 alumni of the Atse Yohanness Alumni Association (AYAA) celebrated on Sunday their re-union by throwing a party at Saba Restaurant (12th Ave and Yesler Way), one of a dozen pleasant Ethiopian restaurants in the Emerald City. Over 40 T-shirts were sold out for $20.00 apiece, while the last T-shirt bearing the School Alumni logo - AYAA* - was won in a lotto for $140.00. Proceeds of the weekend event would go for the purchase of school materials for two foremost Atse Yohannes elementary and high schools in Mekelle, the former capital of Ethiopia during the reign of the late 19th century Emperor Yohannes IV.
*AYAA - In addition to standing as an acronym, the word "Ayaa" in the Tigrinya language connotes an elderly grace and power. For further info, visit Atse Yohannes Alumni Association .
