LONDON - An folkdance group from the Afar Community recently staged performances and won appreciation from the principal of the Sir William Burrough School of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Following is a press release sent to Ethiomedia by the Afar Community in UK:
“Many thanks for organising your wonderful dances for the children of Sir William Burrough School," said Ms. Avirl Newman, the Head Teacher of the School. “We were delighted and honoured to be asked to organize Afar folkdances for the children of Sir William Borrough School," said, Mr. A. Yusuf, Chairperson of Afar Community Association UK “to build a greater sense of understanding and to promote cultural exchange between different communities in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets."
Ms. Avril Newman said on the occasion that “(Afar Folkdances Teams) all looked stunningly beautiful and the children were happily delighted”. “It is a fantastic folkdance, thanks for that”, added Mr. Alex, Assistant Head Teacher of the School.
Afar Community Association UK wishes to work closely in partnership with other educational institutions, hospitals, cultural industries,, cultural department of Tower Hamlets Council and other voluntary and community organisations planning cultural and social events for the purpose of promoting, representing community traditions and folkdances and to help raise awareness of the diverse communities in the UK.
