Re: Something is rotten in Ethiopia
May 12, 2008
Dear Editor,

The clarion call for unity cannot be more lucid, appealing, and genuinely patriotic touching the very core of ones heart. The call eloquently and concisely challenges ones conscience by bringing to light all the gruesome acts of betrayal and criminal activities of the Zenawi regime.

I congratulate you profoundly for making the clarion call awakening the silent majority to the danger of our Motherland Ethiopia which is in a steady descent to the abyss in full view of the divided opposition forces engaged in diatribes over petty issues – of course to the delight of the tyrant watching the fiasco why plundering the national treasury, exacerbating abject poverty, completely denying freedom of association, independence of the press, judiciary and electoral process on the domestic front and, on the regional front, illegally invading Somalia where its forces are committing despicable crimes against humanity in such embarrassing acts of gang raping of women, slitting throats of citizens and looting properties from citizens.

The lie-spewing propaganda machine of the misruling EPRDF regime spearheaded by Bereket Simon cannot hide these internationally verified crimes. Inevitably, Ethiopia stands to pay compensation for these crimes against humanity according to international law.

It appears that the tyrant Meles Zenawi has closed all avenues and ignored all pleas for a peaceful dialogue to for change. Thus those who had all along advocated for armed struggle are vindicated by his secretly ceding of Ethiopian land to the Sudan and incessant violations of basic human rights at home and abroad. United opposition to stem these abuses is a moral imperative and your clarion call to that effect, Mr. Editor, is well justified.

Through you, Mr. Editor, I thank the learned lawyers for having done a superb job in their contributions to your enlightening Editorial.

I pledge to make my humble contribution to the noble call for unity to the extent of paying the ultimate price.

Yours faithfully,

Robele Ababya
